To create harmonious outfits that you feel comfortable in, you need to know your body type . This is where it gets complicated.

There are, in fact, six body types for women. To know which group you fall into, you first need to know them, but above all, you need to understand what your body type is .

So what is body shape? It's the way your body is made and the way your bones are made. So we're not talking about extra pounds! The shape of your shoulders or your hips are part of you.

What are the different body shapes of women?

The A-shaped morphology (triangle)

The A-shape body shape is also called the triangle body shape . You have a slim upper body, a small chest, narrow shoulders, and very narrow shoulders. Your lower body is the opposite. You have wider, rounder hips and buttocks, and you generally wear one to two sizes larger in bottoms than in tops.

The V-shaped morphology (inverted triangle)

The V-shaped body shape , also known as the inverted triangle, is the complete opposite of the A-shaped body shape. In fact, with a V-shaped body shape, your upper body is wider than your lower body . This means you have a generous chest, broad or square shoulders, and a narrower lower body.

The X (hourglass) morphology

The X-shaped body , or hourglass figure , is perfectly balanced and harmonious. Your shoulders are level with your hips and your slim waist is defined. X-shaped bodies are the lucky ones who can wear almost anything.

The H-shaped morphology (rectangle)

The H-shaped body shape resembles the X-shaped body shape in the shoulders and hips. However, it differs from the hourglass figure in that it has a slightly or not at all defined waist . It has square or broad shoulders, equally pronounced hips, and a waist that follows the line from the shoulders to the hips. It is also called the rectangle body shape .

The O (round) morphology

The O-shaped body shape is the least coveted of all. And yet, it allows you to embrace and highlight your curves . With a large chest, broad hips and shoulders, and an undefined waist, the O-shaped body shape is a collection of very harmonious and balanced curves .

The 8-shaped morphology

Like the X-shaped body shape, the 8-shaped body shape is one of the most harmonious. With a defined, arched waist and rounded shoulders perfectly aligned with your hips, the 8-shaped body shape is very feminine . Your curves are generous, from your chest to your hips.

Our advice on how to dress according to your body type

If you have an X or 8 body shape , you can wear just about anything. These are the two easiest body shapes to dress . The reason is that the shapes are harmonious, balanced, and perfectly suited to all cuts of clothing. So, slim jeans, boyfriend jeans, or pleated pants will work perfectly. For the top, an oversized blouse, shirt , or tight top will suit you. For dresses, try to highlight your waist with a fitted piece that accentuates your waist and chest.

For women with an O-shaped body , opt for tops with square or round necklines and straight cuts. Play with colors, shades and small prints . So, take out your skater dress and high heels to slim the silhouette. As for skirts, opt for a straight or asymmetrical cut to play with volume . Finally, slim and stretch pants are for you ladies: wear them with a loose shirt or a flowing blouse for an elegant result.

For those with an A-shaped body , know that Beyonce has this silhouette. So, take inspiration from her! Your hips are defined, so the idea is to emphasize your upper body and your chest . Ruffled tops, V-necks or plunging necklines, balloon sleeves, this is definitely what you need! Opt for close-fitting dresses and skirts and straight pants. Finally, to emphasize your shoulders, the jacket with shoulder pads is the piece to have in your wardrobe.

And for the V-shaped body , it's the opposite. We emphasize the hips and waist . Monochrome flowing tops and wide pants, voluminous and colorful skirts, they're for you!

The idea is to create the illusion that you have a defined waist. How? By enhancing your hips with flared skirts or low-waisted pants, emphasizing your shoulders with off-the-shoulder, flowing tops, and fitted jackets with or without shoulder pads.
